This project involved the complete demolition and removal of the 90,000 square foot Baxter Hall structure, a former student union and dining hall built in 1953. EGC provided pre-demolition hazardous materials assessment, abatement design, and construction monitoring during hazardous materials removal activities. EGC also provided LSP services to address contamination at the site from a former leaking 5,000-gallon No. 2 fuel oil underground storage tank. Site work involved the removal and disposal of approximately 21,400 tons of contaminated soil, and the on-site treatment and disposal of approximately 766,000 gallons of impacted water from the excavation. Remediation work was performed under a Release Abatement Measure (RAM) Plan in accordance with the Massachusetts Contingency Plan, to address the contamination. Remediation work was closely coordinated with, and facilitated, site construction activities associated with the new Student Center.
