Multiple renovation projects at Mass MoCA, ongoing since 1995, have involved the renovation of approximately 450,000 square feet of former industrial/manufacturing space into a museum for contemporary art. This has included the whole-structure demolition of five buildings, and the complete renovation of fourteen buildings. Our services on these projects have included hazardous materials assessments, multiple design packages, and construction monitoring during removal of hazardous materials. Work has included almost 40,000 linear feet of asbestos pipe insulation, 130,000 square feet of transite panels, 260,000 square feet of asbestos flooring, 820,000 square feet of failed lead paint and lead paint debris, and oils, sludges, resins, chlorinated solvents, and heavy metals.
